First Corinthians:
you think you've
got problems!
Little
more than twenty years after Jesus’
death and resurrection, Paul wrote a letter to the tiny Christian
communities he had founded in the port city of Corinth, Greece. In
this correspondence, which we refer to as 1 Corinthians in our New
Testament, Paul addressed a large number of problems that were
plaguing these early Christians, including marriage and divorce,
divisions in the church, chaos in worship, and even some Christians’
denial of Jesus’ bodily resurrection. In this lecture-oriented
class, we’ll take a peek inside the lives and worship of the
earliest Christians. We’ll see that this letter is not merely a
scandalous expose of the Corinthian church, it is an invitation to
us all to get it right by embracing an authentic spirituality
grounded in Jesus.
This eight-week class was last offered in the Spring 2007 St. Andrew
Academy session.
